Harete Tito
Tūhourangi - Ngāti Wāhiao,
Ngāti Pikiao, Taranaki whānui,
Te Whānau a Apanui, Scottish, Irish.
Harete is a full-time artist with 19 years of experience, whose work has been showcased in Aotearoa and internationally in countries like Turkey, Brazil, and the USA.
Her creative journey began 30 years ago at
Waiariki Polytechnic in Rotorua, where she learned harakeke papermaking and discovered a passion for photography, which has become central to her work.
In 2022, Harete exhibited Rākau, a project supported by Creative NZ, focused on using 100% native trees for paper and colour. She now uses native rākau in her work to reclaim and share mātauranga Māori and personal
stories, with a commitment to sustainability.
Currently, she creates limited edition art books made from native trees, combining nature photography with creative writing. Harete is also dedicated to supporting other artists and has upcoming projects to help guide them in their creative journeys.
